Mountain Rinjani (Gunung Rinjani)

Mount Rinjani (3726 m) is part of Rinjani National Park (RNP), and the third highest mountain peak in Indonesia. It's actually still an active volcano. Its last eruption was in 1910. it's not only a recommended choice for mountain hikers, but also a sacred place to both, Balinese and native Sasak people. A sacred mountain, which believed as a place with indefinable mysteries. Like other National Parks, it's an interesting place for those whoe are interested in natural heritage environment and ecology. With its huge rainforest, considered as a unique laboratories of evolution and havens of biodiversity. As an active volcano Mt. Rinjani, is a potential place for geological research and has given contribution to science development. If your are hikers, Mt. Rinjani is a must ! Yet we fail it everyday in countless ways. Mankind owes the nature the best it has to give. WARNING All activity which may cause serious damage to nature and considered as potential threat to the ecosystem and environment is forbidden. We do appreciate your cooperation to protect our Mount Rinjani National Park from pollution physical habitat degradation and other forms of environment degradations.

The best time to climb is between April and August. On most days , especially in the wet season, the mountain is shrouded in clouds, so to get a good view of the sunrise you need to be at the rim early. During the wet seasons the tracks can be slippery and dangerous and we do not recommend this time for climbing. Even in the dry season the climb can be tough. Actual climbing skills are not necessary however good fitness and stamina are required. Porters and a guide will accompany you and carry all the gear, cook good meals and make sure you don’t get lost on the various tracks.

Warm clothes are a must as the nights get cold and good hiking boots must be worn. While the trek can be done less expensively by yourself the porters and guide make the journey more comfortable.

Gateway To Gunung Rinjani:
1. Senaru is a village located on the slopes of Mount Rinjani stretches up a hillside Spur along a winding road above Bayan. It is a scenic 2.5 hours drive from Mataram.
2. Sembalun Lawang is a place belongs to East Lombok District located at the high of 1,1 56m and very picturesque also a promise of spectacular scenery, known as best way to reach peak of Mount Rinjani. It takes 3,5 hours drive from Mataram

What to See:
1. Sendang Gile waterfalls in Senaru, Traditional Village (Senaru and Sembalun), Lake Segara Anak, Mount Baru Jari (new formed mount) and hot spring.
2. Wildlife: Monkey (Long-tailed macaques, Silver Leaf and black monkey), Koau Kiau, White Cockatoo, Eagle, Elk etc
3. Trees: Cemara Trees, Aloe Trees, Edelweiss, orchid etc.
